The first secret about the new off-road Sports Utility Vehicle is revealed:
The third model range will be named "Porsche Cayenne"

Stuttgart. Was the capital of the South American state French Guiana the godfather at the naming or was it rather an unmistakable combination of spices with a particularly fiery effect? Fact is: the term "cayenne" is understood world-wide as a synonym for spiciness, adventure and joie de vivre. It is precisely these attributes which, from Porsche's point of view, perfectly describe the characteristics of the new off-road Sports Utility Vehicle - the third model range after the 911 and the Boxster. As was the case with the legendary "Carrera", the Spanish word for "race", the automobile company from Stuttgart has not chosen an artificially concocted term or combination of letters, but rather they have taken a living term which is immediately understood in almost every language and which is associated with particularly spirited qualities.
Dr. Wendelin Wiedeking, the Chairman of the board of management of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, explained: "With the terms Carrera, Turbo, Targa and Boxster, we have given our sports cars names which are now not only associated inseparably with the Porsche brand name, but also make a decisive contribution to the strong image and success of these products. So the name of our new Sports Utility Vehicle must be of substance and must reflect the Porsche product philosophy - in this case, not only on the road but also off-road. We are convinced that the combination of Porsche and Cayenne as a model designation radiates true strength, dynamism, fascination and emotions and will continue the great tradition of legendary names."
The "Porsche Cayenne" is being produced in a new factory in Leipzig and will be launched on the market in 2002. Annual sales will be over 25,000 units world-wide.

A display of Jaguar roadsters form the past fifty years furnished a backdrop for the announcement that the Jaguar F-Type will go into production in2004 Ian Callum, Jaguar's design director, notes that F-Type production car will create a new design vocabulary that will be use for all future Jaguar models, and emphasize a kind of slippery geometry insteadof retro themes. At the same time, PAG director Reitzle says Jagurar's heritage is about evolution, not revolution. Drawings reveal a car with a sightly longer nose and a lower rear deck. Overall, the revised shape looks more like the Jaguar E-Type and less like the XJ13, a mid-engine racing car from the inspiration for the F-Type concept cars.
